Through its DIAL Equipamiento and DIAL Ingeniería divisions, DIAL GROUP was awarded its Occupational Health and Safety certifications on 23 December 2021. NQA, a global certification body, awarded the certifications after the divisions successfully passed the audit for ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), reaffirming their commitment to continuous improvement and renewal across their processes and services.

This is no surprise, as safety and the prevention of occupational risks are the guiding principles behind its work, alongside meeting the agreed upon deadlines for every project.

One of the Group’s most important objectives is to become the first company in Spain to offer engineering solutions that also contribute to sustainable development while guaranteeing occupational health and safety and the prevention of workplace risks.

Its Integrated Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Management System is therefore designed to deliver the highest standards of quality and excellence.

The decision to adopt standards covering quality, the environment, energy efficiency and occupational risk prevention helps the company improve its overall performance and provides a solid foundation for sustainable development initiatives.

DIAL GROUP delivers turnkey projects tailored to all types of requirements.

DIAL GROUP works to achieve the highest quality across all its processes, construction projects and services. Compliance with international safety standards is one of its core objectives, while respect for the environment is an integral part of every project it undertakes.

Occupational health and safety certifications: what they are and what they cover

Today, occupational health and safety are fundamental considerations for every type of organisation. It is therefore necessary to implement and certify a management system that guarantees compliance with these standards. Such a system also offers a number of benefits for the company and the wellbeing of its employees, with a highly positive impact on the results delivered to clients.

The benefits of complying with occupational health and safety certification requirements are therefore particularly significant:

  • It helps minimise workplace accident rates while increasing productivity through effective control of all risks associated with each role.
  • It improves compliance with occupational risk prevention legislation.
  • It promotes a preventive culture, encouraging all employees to adopt behaviours focused on continuous improvement.

There are also different standards and certifications that companies can obtain to ensure that occupational health and safety are developed and implemented as a priority in any type of business or organisation.

The standards covering these two areas are described below.

OHSAS 18001

This standard establishes all the requirements needed to put occupational health and safety management into practice.

The benefits of holding this certification include:

  • The company can create appropriate working conditions, thereby increasing employee productivity and motivation.
  • The standard enables the organisation to identify risks and establish controls to manage them.
  • It significantly reduces the number of workplace accidents and cases of sick leave.
  • It provides clients and suppliers with an assurance of value and quality.

ISO 45001 certification

ISO 45001 was published in March 2018, replacing OHSAS 18001. Like the previous occupational health and safety standard, it is focused on creating a safe workplace, preventing injuries and reducing the number of workplace accidents.

OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001 certification

OHSAS 18001 certification is currently the most effective tool for companies that voluntarily wish to implement a continuous improvement system in occupational health and safety. Following the publication of ISO 45001, all companies certified to OHSAS 18001 had until September 2021 to migrate to the new standard.

During this period, which was extended due to the public health crisis caused by COVID-19, accredited certificates remained valid and continued to receive the corresponding recognition.

ISO 45001 represents a significant improvement in the way companies manage occupational health and safety. It also facilitates integration with other management systems, such as ISO 14001, which, like ISO 45001, uses the same requirements structure.

Organisations using OHSAS 18001 therefore have an excellent opportunity through ISO 45001 to integrate occupational health and safety requirements into the processes that make up their value chain.

Occupational health and safety certifications: which companies are they intended for?

The certification scheme can be applied to any type of organisation, regardless of its sector. Certification bodies generally offer the option of conducting a joint assessment with OHSAS 18001 certification, creating a single integrated process. This significantly optimises audit times and reduces all associated costs.

The value of certification within corporate social responsibility

By obtaining these international certifications, a company can considerably improve its reputation and legal certainty. They also enable senior management to demonstrate clear leadership in relation to the management system and corporate compliance.

This provides more effective risk control and improves performance and outcomes. The certification also contributes to greater satisfaction among suppliers, clients and employees.

The standard places particular emphasis on organisational context and risk management. Ultimately, it strengthens the role of senior management in leading occupational health and safety.

Meeting the requirements for obtaining this certification calls for collaboration and participation across every level of the organisation.

To reinforce the key principles of Corporate Social Responsibility, Grupo DIAL shares relevant information and communicates the guidelines to be followed throughout the company.
